The stories of Law Shee Low, Helen Hong Wong, Soto Shee and Lee Puey You were drawn from profiles of included in the second edition of the seminal book, Island: Poetry and History of Chinese Immigrants on Angel Island, 1910-1940, co-authored by Genny with Him Mark Lai and Judy Yung.
The book, which includes text and translations of the poems on Angel Island also serves as inspiration for Huang Ruo’s ANGEL ISLAND — Oratorio for Voices and Strings, which includes the translated text of three poems from Island.
